The Springer Opera House Celebrates GivingTuesday joining millions around the world participating in the global generosity movement on November 28, 2023

This GivingTuesday, the Springer Opera House will inspire generosity by increasing access to arts programming for our community’s students and families by raising $15,000 for our ArtServe program.

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on November 28, 2023, and throughout the year.

The Springer joined the GivingTuesday movement 5 years ago to increase access to the arts for students in our community. Each year we fundraise on GivingTuesday to give back through different educational programs by removing financial barriers that keep students from accessing arts programs. Because of the $14,000 raised on GivingTuesday last year, we were able to scholarship 81 students during our Summer Academy session in 2023.

This year, we are raising $15,000 to expand our arts-in-education program called ArtServe. ArtServe offers free and greatly reduced tickets to our performances as well as transportation costs for schools. These full length, professional productions feature top talent from across the country and technical spectacles that are staged and built right here in our community. Many of the students attending ArtServe productions are seeing live theatre for the first time. We hope to enrich the lives of our community’s children through meaningful arts experiences that make Columbus a more vibrant place to live.

“ArtServe is another radically generous program at the Springer that we are highlighting this year. The program offers $10 tickets to students, and Springer covers the cost of the buses with the Muscogee County School District. We work diligently to provide arts access to students in our community,” said Tate LeClair, Director of Development at the Springer. “Seeing live theatre is essential to our children’s education, and seeing it in our National Historic Landmark is a one-of-a-kind experience the Springer has to offer. The funds raised this GivingTuesday will help us greatly expand this program to more students each year.”

GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets billions of impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved in their communities.

“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year.” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. “With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.”
