Every Story Matters. Every Person Belongs.
At the Springer Opera House, theatre is for everyone. The work we do shapes that belief and is reflected in every aspect of our work. On June 23, 2020, the Board of Directors established the Springer Diversity and Inclusion Council to explore ways to attract a broader range of voices to our organization. Guided by these voices of our community, we strengthen the inclusive nature of our theatre through culturally relevant programming, artistic diversity, volunteer engagement, board and staff representation, and equitable community access.
As Georgia’s oldest cultural institution, we hold a deep responsibility to create a safe and welcoming environment where every partner, artist, volunteer, patron, student, and advocate has a voice in the growth of our creative community. Our Diversity and Inclusion Council advises leadership on cultural initiatives. It assists in developing strategies to build audiences that reflect the community we serve while fostering a culture of kindness, safety and compassion. When people from all walks of life gather to share their stories, the result is a richer, more vibrant and more connected community, both onstage and beyond.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We also honor the history of the land on which we create. With deep respect, we acknowledge that the Springer Opera House stands on the ancestral home of the Muscogee (Creek) people, whose vibrant culture thrived here for millennia. In 1836, thousands of Muscogee were forcibly removed from this region, many never completing the journey. Our theatre is located near “Mother Town” Coweta and “Peace Town” Cusseta, two important centers of Muscogee culture.
Others have walked these paths before us. Their stories and legacies inspire our own, reminding us of the power of art to preserve history, advance understanding and bring people together. Further information about the Muscogee people can be found at muscogeenation.com
