MAIN PROGRAM: ACTING CORE CURRICULUM
All students take these 6 classes. Substance and intensity vary with student age and experience.

New! Voice & Movement
A new-ish class that combines the fundamentals of voice and body work, assuring their integration into the actor’s craft. Vocal and communication skills to develop resonance, articulation, projection and effective communication. Movement and body skills to develop strength, control, agility and physical expression.

New! Improv
Okay, not new, but returning and seems new. Improv is back and it is insane as ever. So improvise—make it up as you go along. Theatre games, character and scene improvs, partner work and original scenes. Develops spontaneity, expression and fearlessness and teamwork.

New! Skills & Drills
A new class that is actually new. Core theatre knowledge for effective transition from class to production. Theatre methods, terminology, traditions, rules, taboos, expectations, legends, history and lots of “how to” taught in a fast-paced, role-playing, game-centered approach. LEARN STUFF and have a great time doing it!

Scene Study
Work on great scenes from great plays. Scene study explores text, character, relationships, blocking, and style from Contemporary and Classical comedies and dramas. Provides an acting context for movement, voice, improv and skills training.

Playwriting
The return of an exciting class allowing each student to create characters and scenes based on their own imagination and then stage those scenes using classmates as the cast. Learn play structure, composition, style and critique.

Musical Theatre
The sheer joy of being on stage! It’s still acting—you just happen to be singing and dancing. A fun way to develop characters, relationships and scenes while staging numbers from the great Broadway musicals of today and yesterday.

Academy Namesake
Dorothy W. "Dot" McClure, long-time theatre educator and namesake of the Dorothy W. McClure Springer Theatre Academy, is part of the heroic group of local arts patrons who saved the Springer from the wrecking ball in the 1960s. Dot and her co-visionaries restored the Springer to Victorian splendor and propelled it forward to become the State Theatre of Georgia, a national historic landmark and a regional center for excellence in theatre production and education.
Springer Theatre Academy acknowledges generous support from the McClure Family Foundation, the J.W. & Ethel I. Woodruff Foundation, Columbus Cultural Arts Alliance, Columbus Ledger-Enquirer and Georgia Council for the Arts.
