Joe Boyd, a real estate agent and fan of the pathetic Washington Senators baseball team, hates the New York Yankees. “I’d sell my soul for one good long-ball hitter!” he shouts. Suddenly, the Devil shows up and turns Joe into a 22-year-old superstar who leads the Senators to the pennant game against the Yankees. To stack the deck, Satan sends his assistant, the sultry Lola, to help Joe forget his beloved wife, Meg. But Joe is a salesman and has other plans.
